As the younger sibling of Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, Alex McPherson is a key player for Auburn football. Currently dealing with a non-injury-related issue, the redshirt sophomore kicker is preparing for his third season with the team. While McPherson’s health concerns are being closely monitored, Coach Hugh Freeze expressed confidence that he will be ready to play in the upcoming 2024 season.
Despite these challenges, Auburn is generally in good shape as they approach preseason practices in about a month. The only other player currently expected to miss time is redshirt freshman cornerback Tyler Scott, who will be out for the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury. Offensive lineman Tate Johnson is undergoing a minor surgery, but Freeze anticipates he will be ready to go by August.
McPherson had an impressive 2023 season, earning recognition as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist for his perfect field goal and extra point percentages. As the top kicker in the Class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite, his health situation is being closely monitored in order to ensure his readiness for the upcoming season. The team remains optimistic about his potential return to the field.
