On Wednesday morning, a devastating fire broke out at Pennick Funeral Home in North Philadelphia, leaving the nearly century-old establishment as a charred reminder of its storied past. The funeral home, which has been a cherished part of the community since 1928, is now facing an uncertain future.
Shelli Pennick, the third-generation owner of the funeral home, spoke about her determination to keep the family business going. She took over the business from her grandmother and was grateful that her 87-year-old mother and 16-year-old nephew were able to evacuate safely when the fire erupted around 1:30 a.m. Pennick’s nephew alerted everyone to evacuate and firefighters were able to remove the bodies of the deceased from the reposing room.
Despite the tragedy, Pennick expressed her gratitude for her community’s support during this difficult time. She was overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness and support from those around her, with many reaching out to offer help and comfort. As investigations continue into the cause of the fire, Pennick is already thinking about rebuilding and restoring her family’s legacy.
Pennick emphasized her importance of being there for people in times of need and expressed her deepest appreciation for those who have supported her through this trying time.
