From DeSoto to Seattle: Byron Murphy II Discusses His Dream Come True on Seattle Sports 710AM

Byron Murphy II recently discussed his experience with the draft, college and growing up in DeSoto, Texas on Seattle Sports 710AM. The morning after being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, Byron joined Brock and Salk on the show to talk about how waking up after being selected felt like a blessing. He mentioned that being selected at No. 16 by the Seahawks was unexpected but he felt great and excited to be living out his dream.

Originally from DeSoto, Texas, Byron described the community as highly focused on football where they live and breathe the sport. He mentioned DeSoto as a place that produces top talent in football, referencing players like Von Miller. After graduating from high school, Byron spent three years playing football at Texas, where he also managed to graduate in that period.

Reflecting on his early academic achievements, Byron shared that his ability to graduate early from college was because he had been taking college classes as early as high school. By the time he reached Texas, he had accumulated many hours of college credit, positioning him as a junior in the classroom during his freshman year.

Discussing how he will fit into the Seahawks scheme, Byron acknowledged that there are similarities between his role at Texas and the duties at the Seattle team. He mentioned that the d-line coach sees him playing as a three-tech, a position he has experience with and feels comfortable in. Byron expressed enthusiasm about playing for the Seahawks and believes it is the best fit for him based on his skill set and abilities.

Byron also talked about how growing up in DeSoto instilled in him a strong work ethic and love for football. He said that this foundation helped him excel throughout high school and college and eventually led him to where he is today.

Overall, Byron feels grateful for this opportunity to play for one of his favorite teams while pursuing his passion for football.
