ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode release delayed by OpenAI

OpenAI has announced a delay in the release of their advanced voice mode that integrates the GPT-40 language model into their chatbot. This mode was designed to allow for more natural conversations with “emotions and non-verbal signals”, but OpenAI wants to ensure that it meets their “high standards of security and reliability” before being rolled out.

The GPT-40 model, introduced in May, is meant to enhance human-machine interactions by understanding text, audio, and image inputs to generate responses quickly and accurately. One key feature of this model is the advanced ‘Voice Mode’, which lets users select from a variety of voices to personalize their interactions with the chatbot.

OpenAI had initially planned to test the Voice Mode with a small group of users in July. However, they have decided to postpone the launch by one month in order to make improvements in content filtering, user experience, and infrastructure support for large-scale use. The company aims to launch the voice mode in the fall for Plus subscription users, but this timeline is subject to change.

In addition to voice mode, OpenAI is also working on incorporating new video and screen sharing capabilities into ChatGPT. They believe that these advancements will bring users closer to having natural conversations in real-time with AI, as the model will be able to understand and respond with emotions and non-verbal cues. The availability of this feature will ultimately depend on OpenAI’s standards of security and reliability.
