Revolutionizing the Future: HBKU and NASA Partner for Quantum Research and Education”.

NASA and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have formed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on quantum research and education. The partnership, led by the Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) at HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering, aims to explore opportunities in quantum communications, sensing, and space-based applications.

The collaboration will focus on developing technologies for quantum communications and networking, as well as quantum sensors for space science and observation. This includes the modeling and testing of systems for applications such as blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Additionally, the partnership will consider potential future space-based quantum missions for technology demonstration and testing.

HBKU and NASA will also work together on training, education, and workforce development in quantum technologies. The initiative will involve the creation of specialized educational programs to build local capacity and attract talent from the region.

Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Director of QC2, highlighted the broad scope of the collaboration and its potential to drive innovation in quantum technologies, aligning with QC2’s objectives. “This partnership is a significant step towards advancing our research in quantum technologies,” said Dr. Al-Kuwari. “We are excited about the possibilities that this collaboration brings.”
