On Saturday and Sunday, families in the Greater Scranton Area flocked to the YMCA in Dunmore for a special event called “Thriving Together”. This free community event was designed to raise awareness and celebrate the organization’s well-being initiative known as “Mental health is wealth”.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a variety of family-friendly activities, including a giant dart board, bounce houses, and even meeting the Wilkes-barre Scranton Mascot Tux. However, the highlight of the event was undoubtedly the alpaca petting zoo, which helped to keep everyone in a calm state of mind.
Haley Schaffer, an alpaca enthusiast, shared her thoughts on these emotional support animals: “They’re just like your own dog at home, you just can’t have them all the time.” Schaffer explained that alpacas are fluffy and very friendly creatures that provide emotional support to those who need it most.
The “Thriving Together” program will continue to host events that engage the community in activities and practices to support mental and emotional health. These events aim to create a sense of community and provide resources for individuals to enhance their overall well-being and happiness.
